Show Officials Announce Boxing Tournament Highly Successful Rex Harris, general chairman of the Cedar City Elks Lodge amateur boxing tournament, will leave Saturday Sat-urday with a team of eight boxers from southern U.ah, who will be entered in the Intermountain A. A. U. tournament to open in Salt Lake City Monday. The team Is composed of winners in the official A. A. U. elimination tournament conducted In Cedar City last week and will Include the following fighters: Pok? Willis, 175 pounds, Cedar City; Clint Nelson, 1G0 pounds, Cedar City; Keith Terry, 147 pounds, St. George; Tony Lambert. 147 pounds. Cedtr City; Pratt Smith. 135 pounds. Cedar Ce-dar City; Ashby Cannon, 135 pound.!. w,,. vi fcc, UU1UUH 1) LiC, 111 pounds. St. George; and Wirth Bulloch. Bul-loch. 126 pounds. Cedar City. Some of the boys will be entered in the junior division and some in the .senior, according to the regulations of the Intermountain tournament. Keith Terry, who won by a knockout knock-out over Ted Gofford of the Modem CCC camp, and then defeated Tony Lambert by a decision In the final bout of the tournament, won the award offered for the outstanding performer in the tournament. Tony Lnm x'rt, who K. O'd. Alvin Lindsay, Lind-say, Pioche, Nevada, on the first night decLsioned Leo Kierstead in the first bout of the last program, and tnen lost to Terry In his second sec-ond bout of the evening, was run-nerup run-nerup for the position. Pratt Smith won the 135 pound honors, decLsioning Stanley TroUer of the Modena CCC camp and then winning by a technical knockout over AshLy Cannon of St. George, who had von a decision over La-Verne La-Verne Crites of the Pioche CCC camp. Wirth Bulloch knocked out Kenneth Ken-neth Lineberge from Modena In his first fight, and then won his second bout by a forfeit when Jackie Jack, who had declsioned James Parrisn of Modena, failed to show up. Gordon Gor-don Lytle won his decision by knocking out Ishmael Hunter of Modena, who had won over Joe Machinsky of Pioche. Poke Willis won the 175-pound division by a technical knockout over Roy Whitney of St. George, and Clint Nelson took the 160-pound honors by a knockout victory over Don Wilson of Pioche. The local tournament was very much a success, some excellent performances per-formances being turned In by the fighters, and the lodge officials handled the meet in excellent style. The fine response of the CCC boys from Modena and Pioche did much to make the meet a success, and although al-though none of the boys from these camps were successful in winning weight titles, they were willing and game sports and added much to the success of the program. The support sup-port of Jay Tolman, Dixie college coach, who entered a number of the best boys of the tournament, was also much appreciated by the sponsors spon-sors of the meet. |
