Show National Guard To Answer Call Monday Morning Unless some last minute order is received from federal officers, whica is not expected, Battery F, 222nd. Field Artillery, Utah National Ouard, will be mustered into military mili-tary service for a one-year period of training next Monday, March 3rd, at 8 a. m. The battery will remain In Cedar City for at least ten days and perhaps longer before be-fore leaving for camp at San Luis Obispo, California. Induction ceremonies will be conducted con-ducted at the Armory at 10 a. m. to which the general public is cordially cor-dially invited. In addition to the regular induction ceremonies a short program will be presented, the details of which have not yet been announced. The battery will be commanded by Captain Henry E. Petersen, with other officers including First Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Haldow E. Christensen, and Second Lieutenants Vernon A. Jones, Frank Dalley and Earl Slaughter. The 122 enlisted men of the battery wll be billeted at the Armory building during the stay in Cedar City, except for a small number for whom there will not De room. These will be housed at the Cedars and Lunt's hotels. . The battery will use the banquet hall and kitchen at the Escalante hotel for a mess hall during that period and all meals will be prepared pre-pared and served there. There are still several vacancies In the battery, according to Captain Cap-tain Petersen, occasioned by the transfer and release because of physical disability of a few men These will be filled by Monday, it is expected, and the unit will be up to full strength when when it is mastered into service. Lieutenant H. E. Christensen, executive exe-cutive officer of the battery, will leave shortly after the induction date for a special 13-week field artillery school at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Okla-homa, where he will receive intensive in-tensive training for field artillery officers. Mont Hunter, who has been a member of the battery for 15 years, has been promoted from Staff Sergeant Ser-geant to Master Sergeant, attached to the First Battalion, Service Battery, Bat-tery, 222nd Field Artillery at Lehl, and will be transferred to his new position March 1. |
