Show State Official Conducts Classes In Parent Education A series of highly successful classes In meeting the sex education educa-tion needs of children was conducted conduc-ted last Thursday and Friday, February 20 and 21, as a part of the Cedar City community program in home and family relationships which functions through the local advisory council. Leader of the classes was Miss Winifred Hazen, state coordinator of parent education from the state department of education, who came at the request of the advisory council. coun-cil. Arrangements for the meetings was under the direction of the council's coun-cil's committee on parent education, members of which are Mrs. DeMar Bowman, chairman; Mrs. Joel Barlow, Bar-low, Mrs. Mark McMullin, Mrs. Raymond H. Lunt and Mrs. Jeanne Kralimess. Evidence of the wide community 1 Interest In the course Is shown In the fact that 109 women registered before the final class on Friday afternoon. By group request Miss Hazen was invited to return In March and give two more discussions discus-sions to conclude the series. These two classes wil be held on Monday, March 10, at 3 p. m. and at 7:30 p. m. Further Information concerning concern-ing them may be had by calling Mis. Fae Dix, county community coordinator. During the series women attending attend-ing were given the opportunity to see and Inspect many reliable books for all age levels. And at the close members of the local library board arranged for the purchase of several of the most outstanding books In the group for placement In the city library. Parents who wish to continue their study of this Important Impor-tant phase of human relationships are Invited to Inquire of the local librarians and make good usage ol this reading opportunity. Superintendent N. J. Barlow, who is chairman of the advisory council, announces that other similar classes class-es will be offered at various intervals inter-vals through the community program pro-gram set-up and may be had by any community that is interested enough to make the request for such service. serv-ice. A complete bibliography will be mailed from Miss Hazen's office to all who registered their names and addresses with the course. Of interest also to parents will be the radio series to be broadcast for the next eight Sundays over KSL from 3:00 to 3:15 p. m. This Is a radio study group program for parents par-ents and will deal with the theme, "Conserving and Promoting Mental Men-tal Health." Each broadcast will consist of a dramatization of an actual situation in an everyday family, followed by a brief talk by Miss Hazen. Radio listening study groups are being organized throughout through-out the state for the purpose of encouraging en-couraging further reading and study on the part of parents and teachers in the field of mental hygiene. Materials for such groups may be had through Miss Hazen's office or by inquiring of Mrs. Dix. |
