The fair for the benefit of "Merer Hospital closed on Monday night lith gratifying results for the Sisters. The hall was beautifully beauti-fully decorated itvthe national colors, while at one end . was a large fancy table covered with beautiful articles. To the right was a doll booth, where there were all sorts of dolls, from the life-sized one. sitting comfortably in the big "rocking chair," to the little clown who stuck out his tongue every time you looked at him. There was a lemonade and candy stand, a fish pond and a f6rtune-telling tent where one might peer into the mysteries of the i future. There was a pretty little snow-covered snow-covered house where ice cream was sold, and delicious refreshments were to be had in the dining room. Every evening the hall'was filled and many of the evenings standing room was at a premium; Everybody seemed to delight in lending a helping hand' to the good Sisters, and to realize the importance im-portance of an institution like 'Mercy hospital, for not only do people of our own city find it a model institution from I every point of view, but hundreds come j from all the neighboring towns and are, well cared for and nursed back to life and health by the tireless efforts of these devoted women who have given, up home and friends and all the pleas-uresi pleas-uresi nay, almost the necessities of life to walk in the straight and narrow way, and who never refuse adonittance to anyone. It matters not what creed, race or color. The net proceeds amounted to $965. . , Masses on the Feast of the Immaculate Immacu-late Conception were celebrated at 5:30 and 8:l-i o'clock. Mrs. John Du Praw, who has been quite ill for several months, is reported to be slowly improving. J P. Ivens of Mancos was in town last. week. He contemplates moving his family here very shortly. Mrs. Blackburn has recently returned from the east and will reside in future with her daughter, Mrs. J. B. McCartney. There are more people in our city this winter than for a long time past. Schools are all crowded and theTe is; scarcely a - vacant house to be seen. People appreciate the advantages our little city offers and our health-giving climate. |
