Show Tropic Seeks Funding For Community Center TROPIC Funding for a proposed pro-posed community center for Tropic will be sought through a Community Commu-nity Development Block Grant after there were no objections raised at a hearing held recently. The location for the center is set for BLM property prop-erty southwest of town if the community com-munity can obtain a lease. At its regular meeting, council - members voted unanimously to raise the culinary rates in town from $7.50 to $8.50 a month effective Jan. 1. Out-of-town rates will increase from, $15 to $17.50. The basic charge will cover 8,000 gallons a month usage, with a charge of $1 for each additional 1,000 gallons. Bob Murri inquired about paving of the street behind the motel he is constructing. Council member Terry Barker will check on the matter with Freeland Alvey, Utah Department of Transportation, and with Garfield County Commissioner Commis-sioner Sherrell Ott. The council also discussed ways in which traffic could be slowed in town. Volunteer firefighters Pat Pollock, Pol-lock, Neil Foster and Kerry Alvey attended an arson school to upgrade their firefighting skills. Chief Pat Pollock has been discussing fire insurance ratings for the town; he is keeping a daily log of fire department depart-ment activities. Thanks were expressed to Dixie Shakespear who donated Christmas lights to the town and to Afton Pollock who helped to hang them. The council denied a request by the Harry Day Cases to abate their monthly half-rate charge on culinary culi-nary water because the town was storing its equipment on the Case property under a mutual agreement. The Cases will receive a letter from the council stating that the only way culinary water charges will not be applied will be if the Cases re- quest removal of their water meter in writing. The council will include an offer to burn down the vacant building on the Case property as a fire department de-partment exercise in training with the Cases' written approval. The council meets each second Wednesday evening. |
