Show Part Of Garfield Closed To Turkey Hunting j The spring turkey and bear seasons sea-sons are underway. A few cautions prior to hunting can prevent a good outdoor experience from going bad. Due to a recent Rio Grande turkey I transplant earlier this year, a por- i tion of Garfield County will be l closed. I The area closed begins at the junction of Bryce Canyon National Park and The Kane-Garfield county line; then east along this county ; line to a point three miles east of I, the road to Kodachrome Basin, directly di-rectly south of Henrieville; directly north to Henrieville and Highway i U-12; northeasterly on U-12 to the Dixie National Forest boundary; .west along this boundary to the 'Bryce Canyon National Park i boundary; southeasterly along this boundary to the Kane-Garfield -county line. The remainder of ' Garfield County will open to turkey . hunting during the May 1 through j May 21, 1989, season. During the spring turkey season the legal hunting hours are one ! hour before official sunrise to one j hour after official sunset. Only archery equipment and shotguns are legal weapons, and all turkey hunters must have a combination or i a small game license in addition to i a turkey permit. Since the spring turkey season is for male only, the proclamation states that during transportation the carcass of any wild turkey shall have the head at tached for sex identification. Like the turkey hunters, the bear hunters must obtain a bear permit in addition to a combination license or a small game license. The bear permit will become valid seven days after date of purchase of the permit. Bears can only be harvested during daylight hours. Any bear may be taken during the seasons except any cub or sow accompanied by young. Evidence of sex must be attached to the carcass or pelt of all bear until a permanent tag has been attached by the Division of Wildlife Resources. Within 48 hours after the kill the bear must be transported to a Division officer or a Division office to have the permanent tag attached. at-tached. Both turkey and bear harvest success is very low, but, the hunts allow for an outdoor activity following fol-lowing the long cold winter. |
