Show USU Extension Service To Note Anniversary Garfield County Extension Service Ser-vice celebrates 68 years of service to agriculture producers, 4-H Youth, and homemakers of Garfield County on Monday, May 8, with an open house from 4 until 6 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom of the courthouse in Panguitch. The occasion will also honor the 75th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Smith-Lever Act which established the Cooperative Extension Service as a branch of the Land Grant College System at Utah State University, and at other similar institutions across the nation. Established in 1921 at Panguitch, Pangui-tch, the Cooperative Extension Service proceeded to fulfill its educational edu-cational role as a member of the United States Department of Agriculture Agri-culture in cooperation with Utah State University and Garfield County. Objectives were to promote a greater economic sufficiency in agriculture, strengthen local leadership leader-ship skills, and improve the quality of rural life. Local residents may recall some of the following agents who have served the county during the past 68 years: Morgan McKay, C.A. Hymas, Joseph Muir, Emer Broad-bent, Broad-bent, Ray Thatcher, Ward Cuff, ' Kay Bendixen, Harold Lindsay, Edna Kunz, Leah Boyer, Elizabeth Foy, Flora Bardwell, Evon Olson, Carmen Sudweeks, Catherine Barney, Bar-ney, Kay Henderson and Debra Proctor. Lucile Proctor, Verl Matthews, Elaine Baldwin and Annette Hey-wood Hey-wood will share a little history, outline current services, and serve some light refreshments for those who come in to help celebrate. |
