Show Forester Honored . Local Forester Jeff Bott has been singled for a prestigious regional US Forest Service award on April 24 at Albuquerque, N.M. Bott received the award for Region Re-gion 4 which is made up of Dixie National Forest (Bott serves on the iDixie's Powell District), and 15 other national forests in Utah, Mlifornia, Nevada, Wyoming and Uaho. : Bott, an expert silvaculturist, is i skilled in tree identification, growth ' processes from seedling to harvest-( harvest-( ing, thinning, ground preparation, disease indentification and eradication eradica-tion and proper planting and stabi-; stabi-; hzation procedures. I He implemented the Blubber I Creek harvest and reforestation project pro-ject in conjunction with Kaibab industries that is becoming a hallmark, hall-mark, for efficient forest harvest Management i ' In this operation, Kaibab and the Powell District worked in close harmony to forge a process by which the private sector could come onto public lands and go from start to finish on a complete timber sales Project with the Forest Service contributing technical aid and support. In the immediate past, the forest Service physically handled a arge portion of each timber harvest. har-vest. The local supervisors on the Jeff Bott Blubber Creek project were Bolt and Jack Voris, Kaibab's Panguitch facility supervisor. These two others oth-ers were able to hammer out a project that was not only economical for the taxpayer but one which also left the forest in good condition. The Blubber Creek work was started in 1987 and will be completed in 1991. Bott was born and reared in Castle Cas-tle Dale, received his bachelor of science degree in forestry from Utah State University in 1972 and his MBA in 1977. He began his forestry career as a seasonal worker and went full time when he graduated gradu-ated in 1977. He has served in the Powell District for over six years. |
