Show i Garfield Teachers To Attend UEA Meet i Many Garfield County teachers ' will travel to Salt Lake City, Oct. 10-! 11 as Utah's public schools close for the annual Utah Education Convention at the Salt Palace "The purpose for our convention is to improve instruction for Utah's 400,000-plus students," said Betty Condie, President of the 14,000-member UEA. She will conduct and speak at the convention's general session. Former U.S. Secretary of Education T. H. Bell, Governor Norm Bangerter and National Education Association Vice President Keith Geiger will address the educators. , Keynoting the convention will be Carolyn Warner, Arizona's superintendent of public instruction a sought-after speaker who makes as many as 200 public addresses a year. Also speaking on the opening day will be Suzanne Hansen, an author-lecturer on motivation, and Forsty iand Troy, newspaper. editor of an Oklahoma UEA Executive Director -Lowell Baum speaker. will also be a general session More than 40 educational speciality groups will hold separate t sessions during the convention's second day. Those groups include such educational areas as speech arts, vocational education, Mathematics, reading, special education, counseling, social studies, music, library media specialists, home economics, school psychologist and social workers, computer education, foreign language, English, health, foreign languages and art. Another highlight of the convention's second day will be the "Idea Fair" for elementary educators. This will feature a hall of instructional demonstrations. A record number of exhibitors more than 400 of them will be on display, showing the latest in classroom equipment, supplies, books, films, computers and other instructional tools. Nearly 100 publishing houses will show their wares in the Salt Palace exhibit areas. The convention will conclude Friday evening with the Traditional Grand Festival Concert a performance by the student All-State Band, Chorus and Orchestra. |
