Show Bryce Historical Group Activities BRYCE CANYON -The Bryce Canyon Natural History Association held its annual meeting recently at the Bryce Canyon Pines Restaurant. The Natural History Association is a non-profit corporation established in 1962 to provide support for the National Park Service educational and interpretive programs at Bryce Canyon. A major activity of the association is the publication of books related to Bryce Canyon and the southern Utah area. During the past year, the Association printed two new books, "A Kids Guide to Bryce Canyon" by Pat Kittelson and Brooke Coonor and "The Geology of Bryce Canyon" by Robert Lindquist. These books are sold at the park visitor center. This year the association will assist in the publication of a revised flower book on Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks, written by Dr. Hayle Buchanan of Weber State College, and will also print several folders and interpretive posters on Bryce Canyon. Every summer the association operates an environmental center for children ages 5-12. Student teachers from SUSC staff the center and teach the visiting children about the natural wonders of southern Utah. Nearly 1,000 children attended last summer. Association activities for 1979 include plans to purchase a small radio transmitter that will broadcast information to visitors approaching the park. The radio message will repeat every few minutes and will advise visitors when park campgrounds are full, vhat activities are available in the park and where they should go to see the park's main at-tractions. |
