Show Cannonville Ittck Lutes 679-8S12 Welcome home to Ira and Julia Elmer. They returned home last week from spending some time with their children in Ogden. Julia's sister, Zetta, and son visited also, MissTrishMcCollamof Las Vegas visited the George Thompson family on Saturday. Cannonville Ward Relief Society held its Spring Social. We enjoyed a delicious ham dinner, followed by Cannonville's own version of TV's favorite game show, "The OLDYWED Game". Four contestant couples were selected to participate. The program was complete with "commercial announcements". Mayor Holley was in St. George the 14th attending some governmental meetings. She returned for more of the same here, that night. A meeting of the Bryce Valley Community Council was held on Wednesday, March 14 in Cannonville. The topic of business was the organization of the Bryce Valley Federal Credit Union. The group is made up of representatives of the three local communities. Following the Community Council Meeting, Cannonville Town Council met. Some of the items discussed include the new speed zone signs to be placed at each entrance to town; review of the various Beautlfication committees; preparation for the planned July 4th dedicaiton of the Cannonville Community Center; as well as some specific plans for the use of the center. The Utah community progress workshop was held In Panguitch on the 14. Dr. Maughan and Jcri Winger of the Utah State University, and representatives from Five County Association presented the program. Attending from Cannonville were committee chairpeople Norm LaFevre, Betty Henderson, Don and Louise Mangum, Steve and VerJean Clark, Pat Lutes, Town Clerk and myself. JimxClark was a featured speaker. Also represented were the towns of Henrieville, Panguitch, Kanab, Or-derville and Junction. Dave Evans celebrated his 72nd birthday on the 17. He was visited by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Evans. The ward sang "Happy Birthday" to him at the Relief Society dinner. Cannonville Cub Scouts met March 22 at the home of Pat Lutes. The den mother is Barbara Paxman. William Jeffrey Stock was married March 2 in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Hope Allen. Jeff, 21, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stock, Cannonville. He is currently serving at F. Sill, Okla. in the U.S. Army. The Powell Point District Boy Scouts will hold their annual scout banquet this Saturday. It will be a pot luck luncheon beginning at 11:30. It will be held at the Escalante stake center. All boys 8 and up should plan to attend with their families. All scouters are also encouraged to attend. Contact Joe Thompson or Guy Thompson for details. Dar Smith visited his Aunt Ada and Uncle George Thompson on Monday. Dar is the son of Dar and Helen Smith of St. George. Pat and I went to St. George on the 15th. There we met Rachel and Riley Peeples of Las Vegas. Our activities included going to the temple, visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Dar Smith and a trip to Santa Clara to the Jacob Hamblin home. Speakers in our sacrament meeting were Pres. Whatcott of the St. George Temple presidency, Stan Mecham, Guy Thompson and Mike Ferrin, all of the high council. Bishop and Marva Fletcher visited their new granddaughter, Christen in Richfield. While there, they also visited with Christen's parents, John and Nedra Fletcher. Donnie Roscnbaum left for Salt Lake City. Donnie had been staying with Dawn and Gerald Stock. He will be living in the Salt Lake City area. The family of Beatrice Dutton held a birthday dinner on March 7. They presented her with a mother's ring. Susan Reynolds visited with her parents, Clark and Bea Reynolds. Louise Mangum went to Orem and Logan to visit family. According to family here, she plans a ten day trip. George and Joe Thompson went to Salt Lake City to pick up parts and supplies. Jim and Erma Clarke had a full house when all their children were home. Visiting were Art, Mike, Debra and Joan Clarke. Lorna Peterson is staying with her mother, Fern Henderson. Myrtle Baldwin has returned home from visiting family in the Ogden area. She is confined to her home ill. An all male choir is I ' being formed from the Cannonville, Henrieville Choirs. This group will perform at the Escalante Stake conference April 22, under the direciton of Laurie Holley and accompanied by Viola Rose. "Whatever the mind can conceive, and believe, it can achieve!!" |
