Initially, we have encountered a Heady market tone for the first week of the year. This is a good sign. We can recall a number of first weeks in where the market had, Cist years a banner year as in 1976, opened up the new year "heading youth for the winter. I However, as the January barometer theory (as goes the month of January, so goes the market for the year") still has some time to run, we continue to watch the markets trad-iflpatterns for the remaining three weeks. MANUFACTURERS OF ENGINEERING WORKSTATIONS ARE SEEING HIGH LEVELS OF INSIDER SELLING Intergraph, a developer of computer graphics systems designed for engineers, has seen its share of sellers lately. November saw chairman James Meadlock selling 148,000 shares between 12950 and 129.63, leaving him holding 1,228,000. Also selling in the month was director Keith Schonrock who sold out his entire position of 78,520. Schonrock received between $27 and $27.38 for his shares. The third seller for the month was vice president John M. Thoring-toJr. who sold 20,000 shares between $29.88 and $31 per. Thorington reports still owning 34,000 shares in the company. In October, Deutsch, Shea & Evans released a bulletin containing their high technology recruitment index, which records the trend of want ads n g Incidently, our insider sellbuy ratio presently sits at 2.06 to one (2.06 sellers for each buyer). So that time showed a the logic fits that Intergraph' market is not likely to buy work stations for engineers that are not being hired. A second company in this market is experiencing a high level of insider selling. This is Daisy Systems, whose two-yea- president, Aryeh Finegold sold 135,000 shares in November. Finegold received between $24.50 and $26 25 for his stock and now reports owning 204,888 shares. Director David Stamm sold 50,000 shares during the month between $25.75 and $26.25. Stamm still holds 807,828 shares A third seller for the month in Daisy was vice president Rafael Chatav who sold 10,000 shares at $26.13, leaving him with 229,804. In all, the past six months has seen seven sellers in Intergraph and nine in Daisy Systems. TWO ADDITIONAL COMPUTER called that a home until regards to their stock investment. Two more companies caught our eye with high rates of insider selling in November. The first was Stratus Computer. For the month, Stratus has had five insiders sell a total of 192,800 shares. The most recently reported was President William E. Fosters sale of 22,000 shares indirectly (in a name other than his own) at $21.63. Foster's Indirect holdings were reported at 298,000. Foster also sold 28,000 shares directly (in his own name) during the month at $21 63. His direct holdings are presently 352,000. The second company is LSI Logic, which showed a total of six sellers for HOSPITAL CORP. OF AMERICA VP BUYING Its been a long time since we've seen buying by any insiders in Hospital Corp. In fact, for the past six months, 22 officers have sold stock, including director Frank Borman. Borman sold out his 1,000 share position in July. However on Dec. 12, vice president William Moore bought 6.000 shares of common at $34.25 per share. The purchase brought his total ownership up to 6,026 shares. HUSKY OIL DIRECTOR BUYING ON THE NEWS OF BIG CANADIAN GUSHER On Dec. 31, Gulf Canada said that its big Beaufort Sea well, was not only the bigAmauligak gest gusher in the region but also could be the largest ever for Canada. Husky Oil Is the second largest partner in the property at 18 percent. On Nov. 21, director Sidney Blair purchased 13,000 shares of Husky common at $10. per. The purchase constitutes his entire holdings at this time. American Storti Co. Lennle S. Skoggs, chairman, Indirectly disposed of by gift 780 shores at on unreported price per share on Dec. 20. He now Indirectly holds 6,159,824 shares. Eostman Kodak Co. John E. Riggs, vice president, sold 238 shores at 952.25 per share on Dec. 13. He now has 185 shares. Equity Oil Co. George N. Larsen, director, purchased 2,000 shares at 6. 13 per shot eon Dec. II. He now has 20,000 shores. Iomega Corp. Roderick J. Linton, vice president, disposed of by gift 4,300 shares at 511.25 per share on Nov. IS. He now has 80,628 shares.
