BYUs elevated position in the national polls is good insurance for the later polls. A team which can jump into the top 10 early rarely falls out of the rankings completely, barring a complete collapse, and BYUs conference schedule doesnt appear capable to placing many defeats on the Cocgs record this year, either. The speedy receiver (he runs the dash in 4 5 seconds) didnt exactly have things handed to him when he was recruited out of high school. The Cougars were not the only team interested in his services, but BYU was the only recruiting trip I made. BYU showed the most interest in me, Haysbert revealed. He was always somebodies backup. And it took an injury to Mike Eddo before Haysbert finally got a chance to display his wares fulltime. I always felt I could contribute, but I did feel a little frustrated not playing more, he added. I knew I could play as well as anyone, but I was patient and continued to work hard. Haysbert caught touchdown passes last year against Utah State, Bowling Green and New Mexico. His score against the Aggies came late in the game and helped BYU overtake USU. In high school, Haysbert was four-yea- r letterman in track and soccer. He earned three letters in football, and was an running back, safety and kicker. As a freshman he played wide receiver. I always wanted to be a receiver, Haysbert explained. But my high school coach wanted to utilize my speed and switched me to running back. When I came to BYU Coach LaVell Edwards asked me which position I wanted to play.
