Show G4 Advertising Supplementto The Salt Lake Tribune | The Salt Lake Tribune, Sunday, September 10, 1995 Modular-Home Construction on the Upswing By Gene Austin Knight-Ridder Newspapers When builder Mark Sims decided to build a house for himself and his family, he chose a modular home. The houseis in Briarwood, an ups- _cale development near Doylestown, Pa., but Simsis confident that his house compares well with the custom-bnilt homes of his neighbors. The Sims house, which has about 5,400 square feet of living space — bnot ineluding the garage, basement ‘or a third floor that will remain unfinished for some time — illustrates the advances made in modular build‘ing in recent years. Modulesarrive at a site with plasterboard, electrical and plumbing ‘components, bath fixtures, countertops, cabinets and some flooring al‘ready installed. Roofs, iaid flat on the modules during transport, swing up on hinges like barn doors when the modules are assembled.
