Show 2B Lakeside Review South, Wednesday, July 13, 1983 Skating Club Sponsoring I CopperCupCompetition The Utah Figure Skating Club has announced its annual Copper Cup Figure Skating Competition for July 15, 16, at the Bountiful Ice Arena, 150 West 600 North, in Bountiful. More than 100 registrants from clubs in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Minnesota have signed for the event, promising to make this Utahs biggest Copper Cup to date. Skaters will compete in eight divisions. These are the pixie (with skaters ranging from tots up to age 8, with several in their first competition), prepreliminary, preliminary, subjuvenile, juvenile, intermediate, novice and junior. Special events include solo dance for the preliminary, intwo-da- y termediate and junior presented during the Saturday lunch break by Christopher Mitchell from the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club. Mr. Mitchell is the current gold medalist for the mans novice division, having won this award at the 1983 Nationals in Pittsburgh last January. He has since moved up into the mens junior division, but will not be skating as a competitor at Copper Cup. Local judges named for Copper Cup are Jim Larkin, Salt Lake City, head referee; Ida Tateoka, Riverton, who has also been named as a judge for the 1984 Olympics to be held in Yugoslavia; Jack Searle, Mara go Nate, Linda Leaver, and and Lake Salt Oaks, City; Margie Cood and Richard Blackburn, Bountiful.
