Show McKay wins first in keyboard event B L Maria McKay, formerly of Bountiful, has won first place in the Young Artists Division of the Young Keyboard Artist competition in Provo. John Lew in of Twin Falls, Idaho placed plac-ed second and Suzanne Christen Chris-ten sen of Gunnison, third. Maria, who is a piano student of David Glen Hatch, has completed com-pleted her sophomore year at Brigham Young University, where she is majoring in music with an emphasis in vocal performance. per-formance. On March 23, she was guest soloist at the Young Women of America state finals (formerly Junior Miss) in Salt Lake City. Maria was a runner-up to the State Junior Miss in 1989. Recently, she was called to serve in the Illinois Nauvoo Mission Mis-sion and will leave May 2. Part of her work will include serving as a tour guide at the Nauvoo Visitors Center, being hostess for the "City of Joseph" pag- MARIA MCKAY eant, Aug. 2, 3, and 6-10, and performing with 1 1 other missionaries mis-sionaries in two proselyting musical productions that are presented daily for four months. |
