Show Braves go two for three; WX continues struggles Darts, Vikings continue region win streaks By G.BRETT HART Sports Editor PLEASANT VIEW Viewmont continued its winning ways clobbering the Weber Warriors Friday 13-9 in Region 1 baseball action - the victory marks the Vikings fourth consecutive win, Troy Bumingham led Viewmont's 12-hit offensive attack with two homeruns. The senior first baseman was responsible for four RBIs alone. Jared Leishman also logged a homerun for the Vikes. "I was pleased with the win," Viewmont coach Wade Bender said. "Weber is a tough place to play. Their field is horrible." Jason Jarvis came in for pitcher Shane Cullimore after two innings and was credited with the win. "We're finally playing like we're supposed to," Bender added. BOUNTIFUL Davis High's varsity baseball squad extended its domination of Region 1 opponents Tuesday to six straight, overpowering the Clearfield Falcons 8-4 in front of the Darts' home crowd. Davis boasts a perfect 6-0 record in league play and stands at 6-2 overall. Davis took an early 6-0 lead at the bottom of the third inning and breezed on to win. Ironically, both teams were credited with 7 hits, but the Falcons were plagued by five errors which cost them the game. The Darts drew a bye Friday. VIEWMONT 13, BONNEVILLE 4 At Bountiful, the Viewmont Vikings continued to show the fortitude that earned them a Region 1 championship cham-pionship last season drubbing the Bonneville Lakers 13-4. The Lakers took an early 4-1 lead after the first inn- ing, but a 10-run, Viewmont scoring spree in the bottom of the sixth sank Bonneville and lifted the Vikes to their fourth Region 1 win in six tries. BOUNTIFUL 20, GRANITE 6 At Salt Lake City, the Braves use batting muscle to plant the Farmers 20-6 Thursday and hold onto a tie for third in Region 6 action. Thursday afternoon's battle rounded out Boun-tiful's Boun-tiful's third game of the week, after bouts with West and Tooele, respectively. The Braves overpowered West on Monday 13-3 but butted heads with Region 6's top dog, or Buffalo in this case, Tuesday, the result-a 9-4 beating at the hands of Tooele. At 7-1 on the season, Tooele is ranked as the top 3A team in the state. In spite of their lofty ranking, it took 14 errors on Bountiful's part for the Braves to lose. h t" "Against Tooele, both teams had five hits. After the game we re-positioned some of our players, and that seems to be working out. "We didn't play very well against the Buffaloes, but we played a lot better against Granite. Bountiful rambled to an impressive 20 hits against the Farmers led by Troy Hutchinson who recorded a triple, a double and a single. MURRAY 13, WX 2 At Woods Cross, the 'Cats continued to struggle in league action, losing to the Murray Spartans 13-2. Woods Cross played solid defense logging a single error, but the Wildcat offensive machine ground to a halt managing a meager four hits to Murray's 13. At Woods Cross on Tuesday, the Wildcats bobbled a 2-0, first inning lead to find themselves on the short end of an 8-4, Region 6 duel with West. v |
