' , r ' . mmmmmmmommmmmmmyG ' " v n ' -4 Bv TOM HARALDSEN Clipper Correspondent CLEARFIELD Viewmont High's boys' track and field team rolled to an easy victory in the annual an-nual Davis District Track Championships Cham-pionships which concluded Monday at Clearfield High. The Vikings took a 77-point victory vic-tory over second-place Davis during dur-ing the two-day event, sponsored by local State Farm Insurance agents. The meet was moved after bad weather postponed it late last week. The Woods Cross 400-meter relay team also set a new meet record, winning the event in a time of 43.05 seconds. The previous mark of 43.70 was set by Layton High five years ago. Record-breaking Record-breaking team members were Robbie Davis, Brian Ashby, Pete McConkie and Marcus Rhoton. Bountiful High senior Brandon Wilding was named top male athlete of the meet. Wilding, the state's premier distance runner, captured cap-tured wins in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races. Viewmont's Mike Ewing also set a new meet record in the discus, winning with a toss of 166-12, eclipsing the old mark of 161-3 set by Clearfield's Craig Carter in 1986. In team standings, scores were affected by the moving of the meet to Saturday-Monday, as' several athletes were unable to attend qualifying quali-fying on Saturday. In boys' competition, com-petition, Viewmont was first with 197 13 points, followed by Davis at 120 13, Clearfield 81, Woods Cross 50, Bountiful 48 and Layton 29 13. The girls' title went to Layton for the fourth straight year, as the Lady Lancers amassed 171 points. Following Layton were Davis at 104, Clearfield 93, Viewmont 60, Woods Cross 42 and Bountiful 16.
