Show Census to do SIPP South Davis County representatives represen-tatives of the U.S. Census Bureau began revisiting selected area households Nov. 1 to conduct its Survey of Income and Program Participation Par-ticipation (SIPP), William F. Adams, director of the bureau's Denver regional office, announced. SIPP is a nationwide continuing survey introduced in the fall of 1983. It is one of the nation's largest, with about 20,000 households participating. The Census Bureau publishes periodic reports with information from the survey. Subjects covered include the following: Jobs and earnings; the economic effects of unemployment, disability, and retirement; how taxes affect personal spending; and participation participa-tion in programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and food stamps. Information from SIPP helps policy makers and administrators determine how well government programs are serving the public and how changes in programs and policies will affect the public. Following are some facts on health insurance based upon a 28-month 28-month survey period ending in May of 1987: About 28 percent of U.S. residents lacked health insurance for at least a month during the period; the survey showed that 7 percent of the population was covered for six months or less; 30 percent of men lacked continuous health insurance during the period, compared with 27 percent of women; and one-half of persons aged 1 8 to 24 had no insurance for a month or more, and 12 percent were covered for under seven months. |
