Show Cen terville joins Drive Alive program again CENTER VILLE-The City has begun its third and I possibly final year of participation in Davis County's Drive I Alive program, which faces an end of funding after next I September. I City Council recently entered into an interlocal agree- I ment with the county for service through the Drive Alive I grant, an educational program designed to lower traffic ac- I cidents and fatalities. I The grant basically provides participating cities with ad- I ditional funding for personnel time and additional patrols. I Pre-eminent areas where enforcement is concentrated in- I elude use of seatbelts and child restraints in vehicles, driv- I ing under the influence, speeding and driver courtesy. In ac- I cordance with the grant, the City must agree to a certain I number of hours each week spent by officers patrolling the I streets for purposes of enforcement. I The program has been shown to be effective, as accidents I and injuries have lowered in those communities par- I ticipating in Drive Alive. There is still no word on whether I the program will be continued after the current year's fun- I ding ends on Sept. 30, 1991. |
