Show Salvation Army, UHP combine forces to help The Intermountain Division of - the Salvation Army and the Utah Highway Patrol have combined forces for-ces in an effort to provide immediate imme-diate aid to needy, stranded moto- lists. According to Salvation Army Lt Colonel George F. Church; the " intent of this joint effort program is ; to assist needy highway travelers who are temporarily without food : and in need of gasoline, lodging, ' food, or other temporary support. The program originated in Wis-. ; consin in 1987, jmd has received nothing but praise in every area of operation. Major William' Ricken, Salavation Army Service Extension Director, recently met with state police command officers from Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Utah, and outlined the program to them. The group's consensus was to implement the program as quickly as possible. When Utah Highway Patrol Troopers encounter needy travelers, they have been equipped with appropriate ap-propriate forms to be used in obtaining obtain-ing merchandise or services from local businesses. According to LL Gary E. Gunrud, Utah Highway Patrol Pa-trol field commander for Davis County, "This very worthwhile program will only be successful if we receive the cooperation and support of local merchants within the area."
