Carolyn Knight had eight of those 1 1 first-quarter points, includ-mgapairofthree-pointers. U-: - But the Vikes took command in the second period, thanks to Jenny' , Siddoway, who canned four field . goals, including two three-pointers, as Viewmont took a 26-23 lead into ' the locker room at the half. The Vikes actually had a 26-21 lead and v the ball in die final seconds, but " Wildcat Dawn Britton made a great steal and a superb pass to Knight, - who laid one in wiih five seconds left . ' . Britton's heroics were a sign of . things to come. In the third period, ' the Vikes defeased Knight, who had scored 16 first-half ' points, very well. That left Britton open, and she . responded by hitting sever! of nine . second-half, shots. Meanwhile, Viewmont was cold, scoring on just , three of 16 shots from the field in the third , quarter. After three. Woods Cross had tied the game at -33-alL . f The contest was tied at 35's when Britton drilled a three-pointer wither with-er to go. Melissa Eggett scored1 for Viewmont, but Britton hit another an-other "homer" with 5:58 left to make it 41-37. Woods Cross led the restoftheway. A pair of free throws by Andrea Wilcox wi'Ji 4:44 left made it 43-37. Later, after Briuon scored , again, Eggett hit back-to-back field goals to cut the lead to 49-45 with 1 :22 left. But Maggie Allen was fouled with 43 seconds to go, and she calmly sank both free throws to : essentially ice the victory.- J - Knight finished with 21 points, Britton with 19 (17 in the second , half) -AmyJTurmanjwitlLnine for Woods Cross. Viewmont was ' : led by Eggett with 14 and Siddoway with 13. The Vikes shot just 38 per- .cent from the field (20-53), compared com-pared to 42 percent for Woods -Cross (17-41); but the Wildcats won , this game on the boards, where they consistently grabbed rebounds, es-pccially es-pccially in the final minutes. BOUNTIFUL 51 HIGHLAND 37 , s At Highland, the Lady Braves - . - ' look a two-game lead with a victory over the Rams. Bountiful was never really in trouble in this game, as it pulled to a 13-9 lead and increased it to 32-11 at the half. Highland pulled closer at the end only after coach Jill Avery inserted .' her reserves. Stephanie Reading led the way again for Bountiful with 17 points, MaeganMacKay added 13 and both Robyn Ludwig and Julia Thornley chipped in eight apiece. DAVIS 38 EAST 35 (2 OT) a . At Davis, the Lady Darts over-' over-' came a 20-14 halftime deficit to move into fourth place by them selves with a double-overtime win ' over East. It was the second straight double-overtime loss for the Leopards, Leop-ards, who fell to 1-6. Sharla Cook won the game with three free "throws in ihe second overtime period. She continued her hot hand with 13 points to lead Davis. Tanja Fraughton added nine and Christy Jones eight for Davis. .TUESDAY'S GAMES VIEWMONT 77 HIGHLAND 35 ; . That's not a misprint, as the Vikings Vik-ings teed off on the Rams at Viewmont View-mont in a game that was over before ' halftime. Viewmont built up a 33-17 halftime lead, increasing it to ' 43-21 in the middle of the third :; periocL )-,:-: ,.::.r-: T. . - From that point, a 21-2 spurt by the Vikes left Highland gasping for v air. B6UNTIFUL 56 DAVIS 51 At Bountiful, the Braves survived a scare from the up-and-coming - Darts, who actually overcame a - 14-point deficit at one time to take a "four-point lead in the final period. Bountiful led 31-21 at halftime, , - but Davis' came back to within two. "at 38-36 in the third period, and Christy Jones tied the game for the Darts with a hoop at the 7:20 mark in the final period. Baskets by talented Tanja - Fraughton and Chantel Anderson r made it 42-38 for the Darts with , 5:50 to go, but Bountiful answered , with a pair of free throws from Jessica Jes-sica Olson and a basket by Stephanie Ste-phanie Reading at the 5:00 mark. Reading converted a three-point a play with 3:45 left, and then scores ' from Olson and Julia7 Thomley made it 49-44. Davis pulled back to within three, but could never completely com-pletely catch up. Sharla Cook, whose three-pointers three-pointers kept the Darts in the game most of the way, led Davis with 15 points, Fraughton added 12 and 1 Tami Brooks eight Davis played without the services of Nicole Robinson, Ro-binson, who was out with an injury. WOODS CROSS 69 EAST 66 (2 : OT) The Lady Wildcats dodged a big bullet with a double overtime win at ' East, a game in which the Leopard ' had the ball and a five-point lead with eight seconds left in regulationand regula-tionand tost - ' r - East led 61-58 with 24 seconds-left, seconds-left, and, as Woods Cross worked ; for a shot, a pass was deflected out of bounds by the Leopards. The official awarded possession to East, . prompting a vigorous protest and . two technical fouls slapped on the Wildcat bench. But East converted just two of the four free throws, and had the ball with eight secdhds left, leading 63-58. - Carolyn -Knight intercepted the inbounds pass and was fouled, making mak-ing two free throws to tighten the score to 63-60. On the next Leopard inbounds play, a pass the length of : the court went out of bounds untouched, untou-ched, giving Woods Cross the ball under its basket Sophomore Amy Turman was fouled as she scored with two seconds left, and she calmly cal-mly sank the free throw to tie the gameat63-aU. f After a scoreless first overtime, the Wildcats took command in the second as Dawn Britton scored on a short jumper, Knight hit a layup and then followed with a pair of free throws with six seconds left. East hit a meaningless three-pointer at the buzzer. Britton led the scoring with 21 points. Knight added 18 and Turman Tur-man 14 for the Wildcats. . League play continued Tuesday, and will conclude - with games Thursday and next Tuesday, February Fe-bruary 21. The state tournament is slated for February 27 through March 4 at Murray High School. Sharla Cook of Davis (52) went up with this shot enroute to a fine 15-point performance as the Lady Darts lost a narrow decision to league-leading Bountiful Tuesday afternoon.
