Show Surpjrisih place high in state finals By TOM H ARALDSEN Sports Editor- SALT LAKE CITY-Woods Cross finished a surprising sixth in boys and 11th in girls as the state 4-A swimming championships were held at the University of Utah last weekend. The titles were captured by Skyline and Brighton, respectively. respec-tively. . . The male Wildcats were actually in a good position to take fourth, but had their 400, freestyle relay team . disqualified after a questionable call on a false start. Still, the sixth place finish was very high. Viewmont placed 19th in boys and 20th in girls. ' Top local finishers included Dan Pace and Carter Moore of Woods Cross, ninth and 11th in diving; Bountiful diver Nathan Cook, sixth; Woods Cross diver Kyndel Rowe, fifth; Viewmont divers Tara Brandon Bran-don and Monica Putnam, 11th and 16th respectively; Woods Cross' Dave Diaz, eighth in the 200 free and sixth in the 500 free; the Woods 1 Cross 200 medley relay team of Ryan McCune, Shaun Stephenson, Justin Mann and Chris Carter, fourth; McCune, eighth in the 100 ;' . back; Stevenson and Carter, eighth i and ninth in the 100 breast; Boun-uful's Boun-uful's Todd Orchard, 14th in the ' ' 100 fly; Viewmont's Adam Rosen-lund, Rosen-lund, 13th in the 500 free and 14th in the 200 free; Viewmont's Greg Garff, seventh in both the 200 IM and the 100 back. ' In an interesting note, after the Woods Cross team was DQed in the relay, the Viewmont relay team r wore Woods CroS hats in protest during their next race.
