Show Flashing traffic signal is approved by M. Council - By GARY R. BLODGETT : sFARMMGTON - A flashing traffic-light at 1800 South 200 West, Bountiful, was approved by . the - Bountiful City Council last Wednesday night The council also ' approved a bus unloading zone far Washington Elementary School and heard a traffic study report from City Engineer Jack Balling. ' Mr. Balling told the council that the 1800 South 200 West intersection intersec-tion is one of the worst in the city -and has proportionately more serious seri-ous (injury) accidents than most other intersections. The flashing light will be red to stop north-south traffic and yellow to slow east-west traffic, Mr. Balling Ball-ing explained. Cost of the steel pole for the light will cost $2,270. He said Jhe intersection will warrant war-rant a full stop signal within the next few years, but the same pole could be used to hold that signal : when needed. - v - The council approved a 100-foot Jong section to be resurfaced on the ' north side of Washington Elemen-" Elemen-" tary School to be used as school bus unloading zone. ; ' Mayor Dean S. Stahle and Coun-' Coun-' cilman Harold Shafter then praised the recent performance by the Bountiful Symphony OrchestfTas "an outstanding job, comparable to performances of the Utah Symphony Sym-phony Orchestra.' .' In referring to a recent traffic study, Mr. Balling said the city is making significant progress to upgrade up-grade its traffic flow and reduce ac- cidents, "but there is still a tot to be done.'! a't -,:,,:'::-- He said the flashing light at 1800 South 200 West will serve as a "beacon" to approaching traffic. "The stop signs for north and southbound traffic will remain in place and coincide with the red and yellow flashing beacon light," Mr. Balling told the council. - |
