Show Viking Views By RUTHANNE HANSEN A few weeks ago, I was asked, along with many others, to attend a five year planning meeting. It dealt with Viewmont and the goals we felt should be accomplished in a five-year time block. We began by dividing up into small groups and brainstorming. We made a list of positive attributes Viewmont has arid another list of attributes that needed improvement As I sat tliere listening to both lists grow, I was amazed that the positive list revolved so much around people while the list of needed improvements revolved around "things." I thought about this pattern and concluded that every school has room for betterment; better-ment; every school' can advance with materialistic-necessities, but how does one improve the relationship re-lationship between die administration administra-tion and the faculty, between the students and the faculty and between be-tween people in general? Well, Viewmont is awesome in this area (the growing positive -list was proof). We treat each other with respect; we talk and laugh at stomps, games and at drill and cheerleaduig competitions. com-petitions. Faculty , members get:: together after school and discuss concerns and relate the good, while .eating Mrs. Dubois' famous homemade home-made fudge. Administrators always have their doors open to anyone who needs a listening ear. Viewmont View-mont is a family and we stick . together. Another attribute that added to the positive side, is success in most everything. Our debate team is constantly con-stantly winning competitions and awards, the swimmers are placing high and getting top scores at their qualifiers, varsity wrestlers beat Bountiful 64-3 and one week later captured the region title, our Lady Vikes are excelling in basketball (often winning by 15-30 points), the , cheerleaders and j. Vykelles arcr ' working hard for their competitions, boys' basketball beat Highland and Davis and gave Woods Cross a tough game (the basketball team always pull a big crowd). ' The music department is preparing prepar-ing for solo and ensemble, the choral department is busy practicing practic-ing for the musical this spring, the special ed. department is famous for involving other students with their program (48 tutoring positions have been filled), the AP program rf the best around (with a success rate so high other schools don't believe it when you tell mem). We are willing to give, as shown in the $6,000 raised for Santa-Aid.' - ' Now do you understand why the positive side of the list impressed me so much? We sincerely care, and try to help others excel as far as they are able." Viewmont has had : success and growth for 25 years and we plan on continued improvement forthenext25l : , h- ,,' |
