Show Gets appointment to academy William Alan Spangenthal, 18, a senior at Clearfield High School has received a prestigious appointment appoint-ment to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, nominated Spangenthal because of his outstanding scholastic record and his desire to serve his country. "Bill is one of 55 Utahns nominated nomin-ated to the four U.S. military academies who will get the chance to attend the military school," said Hatch. "Bill is among the few who have excelled, a direct result of many years of hard work and personal discipline. It is a great honor and privilege for you to receive this appointment to the academy," Hatch told Spangenthal. "You have developed unique leadership, physical, and scholastic qualities which led to your selection by the academy." Bill is a 4.0 gpa student who is ranked first in his class of 550. He is a member of the National Honor Society, member of the Senior Student Stu-dent Council, and member and past secretary of the Junior Engineering and Technical Society. Bill is captain cap-tain of the varsity basketball team and also played on the football team, soccer team, and track team. He is an Eagle Scout and is active in his church. He is a member of a 60 member panel to discuss the future fu-ture of the Davis School District. Bill is the son of Dale and Phyllis Spangenthal of Clearfield. |
