Show Utah writing contest Deadline set in Feb. poem or group of poems related to a single theme. Minimum 100 .lines, maximum 350 lines. A collection of 10 poems not to exceed 16 lines in length. It is important that subject matter is not dated. Limericks will not be considered. Must be fiction for adults, any subject or style and appropriate length. Class E : Juvenile book. First prize $500. Second prize $300. Fact, fiction or biography, appealing to children ages 6 through 13. Compilation of juvenile stories will be considered. None of the stories may have been published as part of a previous collection by the author. They need not be bound, but should be contained in a box. Class E-l: Young adult book. First prize $500. Second prize $300. Fact, fiction or biography appealing to ages 13 through 18. Writers must be aware of the special nature of this area of literary accomplishment, and that this is a book-length book-length manuscript. Manuscripts need not be bound, but should be contained in a box. Class F: Magazine article. First prize $300. Second prize $200. Maximum 2,000 words, minimum 1,000 words. The article should have a strong, single focus, and should slanted toward a particular audience for a specific type of magazine. The intended audience and type of magazine must be mentioned in the upper right-hand corner of the manuscript. Example: Intended for both men and ' women, age 25-55, in a general interest magazine like "Reader's Digest." Publication Prize: One prize only of $5000. One of the first-prize winners of the preceding classes calling for book-length, submissions (Class A, Class A-l, Class A-2, Class E and Class E-l) will be awarded a prize designed specifically to assist with the publication of the chosen work. The purpose of the prize is to assure that some work possessing genuine significance for the State of Utah will not be lost to the body of published literature. The prize must be used for the sole purpose of making a suitable arrangement with a reputable publisher for the publication of the work to which the prize was awarded. If a publisher approved by the Literary Committee of the Utah Arts Council is not found within a year, the prize will not be awarded. All eligible works will be considered automatically by the judges: SALT LAKE CITY -Deadline for entry in the Utah Arts Council's Twenty-Fourth Annual Original Writing Contest is Feb. 15, 1982. Manuscripts must be postmarked by midnight on the closing date in order to be eligible for the competition. All entries should be addressed to the Utah Arts Council, Literary Competition, 617 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84102. The contest is open to all legal residents of Utah of any age. One entry only may be submitted in each class by each contestant, and winners of first or second place cash awards in the contest of the year immediately preceding (1980-81) are not eligible to compete for prizes in the class in which they received the award, although they may compete in any other class. Ten categories and a publication prize are offered writers. They are as follows: Class A: Novel. First prize $1,000. Second prize $750.
