Show Beaver commission confronts many items in day-long session The commission opened the bids for painting in the courthouse and accepted the low bid of $1,850 by Glen Jablonsky, with some conditions. The Commissioners were concerned that the project was immensely underbid and stipulated that Jablonsky must post a $1,850 performance bond guaranteeing completion of the project. The only other bid was submitted by Blair Osborn, $4,190. The Commission set Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. as the time for opening bids for County insurance. ms BEAVER In a day concerned mainly with setting the 1982 budget, the Beaver County Commission Thursday acted on a number of other requests in its day-long meeting. Representatives of the United States 'Forest Service met with the Commissioners to discuss action the County had taken earlier on roads within the County and Fishlake National Forest boundaries. In some instances, there is the possibility of conflict between the two entities because they are both claiming the same road. Although no action was taken on the potential problem, Commission Chairman Chad Johnson made it quite clear why the County placed the roads on its Class D system, citing the concern of the commission and County residents that much land in the area would become wilderness area. The adoption of the roads into the system, it was hoped, would help stall or stop such action. "The State's concerns are not always local government's concerns," said Johnson, adding that keeping the roads in County jurisdiction would help in governing and maintaining such. The Forest Service, on the other hand, was concerned that it would want to close some roads and would run into trouble with the County. Everybody involved hoped that if and when such a problem arose, it could be worked out. However, if it couldn't, the matter would probably have to be settled in court. In another matter, in the midst of setting the 1982 budget, the Commission opened and changed the 1981 budget. A total of $24,394 was added to the budgets of the Commission, the Beaver justice-of-the-peace, the treasurer, the recorder, the attorney, the assessor, the sheriff and the jail. The commission also approved having Fire District Number 1 (Beaver) handle its own funds, rather than running them entirely through the County books. In other business The Commission approved an expenditure of $25,000 for helping in paving the lot to the north of the courthouse. The lot will be used as parking for the Beaver High School gymnasium and the planned-for vocational building, as well as for the courthouse. |
