Show Wrestling team on the road CEDAR CITY The Cedar High School wrestling team is on the road and that statement, according to Coach Virgil Johnson, is almost literal. In order to get matches it is necessary for the Cedar squad to travel almost constantly. Johnson indicated that the bigger schools don't want to come down here and the smaller schools in the area aren't interested. The Cedar matmen have met their counterparts in Carbon, Hurricane, Fillmore and Viewmont as of this publication. They will travel to Spanish Fork for the Nebo Tournament Saturday. The Redmen won at Carbon with both varsity and JV teams competing. The varsity got a 39-18 win while the JV slipped by 33-30. Winning their matches for the varsity were Coy Bryant, Greg Robinson, Kendall Bryant, Shreve Damon, Greg Bulloch, Kris Hansen, Emron Tripp and Danny Bulloch. JV winners were John Stokes, Chris Wheeler, Jason Stokes, Scott Browning, Gary Chidester, Kurt Hunt and Danny Beacham. At Hurricane the varsity picked up a 33-23 win and the JV did the same job by a 30-24 score. Coy Bryant, Greg Robinson, Shreve Damon, Gaylen Matheson, Kris Hansen, Dane Boren, Emron Trip and Danny Bulloch all wracked up the points for the varsity against Hurricane while JV winners were Tommy Morez, John Stokes, Mark Covington (forfeit), Jason Stokes, Scott Browning, Gary Chidester, Kurt Hunt and Loeman Church (forfeit). The varsity team also defeated Millard High last Saturday to make it three big wins in a row. Greg Robinson at 112 won his match in the second period with a fall to get six points for the Redmen. Kendall Bryant at 119 squeaked by his opponent 8-7 and Shreve Damon won 3-0. Other winners for the Redmen were Gaylen Matheson (132) 6-0; Greg Bulloch (138) 7-6; Dane Boren (155) 6-1; Emron Tripp (167) 6-0 and Danny Bulloch (185) 6-0. |
