Show r : v . LIEUT. SHIRL R. ALGER Shirl R. Alger Receives Wings At Napier Field Colorful ceremonies in the field house of Napier field, Dothan, Alabama, Dec. 5th, marked the graduation of a large class of Army air pilots. The graduates included Shirl Reid Alger, son of Mrs. J. Bruce Clark of 5409 West Pico, Los Angeles, and Herbert Alger of Enterprise, and a grandson grand-son of Mrs. Roxa J. Terry of this city. Shirl was born in Burley, Ida., and was only three months old when his parents brought him to St. George, where he remained with his grandmother until he was aged 14, attending public school here, before joining his mother in Los Angeles. He graduated gradu-ated from the Polytechnic high school in Los Angeles . and was employed by the All Power Manufacturing Man-ufacturing Co., there when he entered the service. He began his flying training Feb. 28, 1943, and on his graduation gradu-ation was sworn in as a Second Lieutenant, received his silver ln wines and aerial gunnery badges for proficiency in both ground and aerial gunnery. Lieut. Alger's older brother, S.Sgt. Lewis Clark Alger, is also with the Army air forces and has been in England for several weeks. Sgt. Alger entered the Army air forces in October, 1941, and for more than a year has been an instructor in gunnery in this branch of the service. |
