Show Lou Atkin Burgess Dies From Gunshot Wounds Lou Atkin Burgess, 37, son of Mrs. Andrew Nordin of Motoqua, and former St George boy, died at the St. Mary's hospital in Tucson, Ariz., Saturday evening, Dec. 18th, of accidental gunshot wounds. Mr. Burgess lived on his farm thrpo milc rmt nf Tucson. 'He left his home early Saturday evening to shoot a hawk that was taking his poultry. Going through a wire fence about 37 feet from his home, his clothing caught and tripped him, and his .30 caliber rifle was accidentally discharged, the bullet passing through his body. Friends hunting nearby, answered his calls for help, found him on the rear porch of his home, where he dragged himself following the accident, and they took him to the St. Mary's hospital. hos-pital. Born in St. George, Sept. 4, 1905, he was a son of Frank and Nellie Atkin Burgess. His father died when he was a child. He was married Dec. 17, 1941 to Miss Katherine Crough of Phoenix, who, with a 14-month-old son, Lou Jr., survive him. Also surviving are his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Nordin of Motoqua; two sisters, Mrs. Marion Nelson, Motoqua, and Mrs. Claude Albright of Las Vegas, and two brothers, Frank Burgess of Tucson and Sgt. John Nordin of Fort Lewis, Wash. Funeral services were held on Tuesday in the" Reilly funeral Parlor in Tucson. |
