Show Present Program On Washington Field Road Nearly Done Says Woodbury Fine Road luilt trom St. George To Virgin River Bridge Work is nearing completion on the State Highway from St. George through the Washington Fields, reports Evan J. Woodbury, county commissioner. At least, what is being done will protect the highway and prepare it for oiling as soon as that becomes possible. An especially good job is being done from St. George to the River Bridge, says Mr. Woodbury, and from that point through to the Washington Bridge, the road is being made passable for the present. However, the necessary property rights are being secured in order to provide the required road width where needed and the county has in mind urging that this part also be put in shape for eventual oiling. The stretch from the Washington Bridge to U. S. 91 is only receiving medium attention at this time, but will get further improvement later. Because of the increased tonnage ton-nage of loads hauled across it these days, the River Bridge has been labeled a hazard. The steep approach on the north bank makes the bridge have to take the weight of the load abruptly as the vehicles pull onto the bridge floor. This hazard is being minimized min-imized by a re-vamping of the approach which will give the road a leveled off space at the bridge entrance. |
