Show Large Squads In Both College and Hi Turning Out For Football With large squads in both the college and high school division out for practice, Coach Lloyd Shields is showing as much en-thusiasim en-thusiasim as it is permissable for a football coach to display. He declares that while the boys may not be the individual stars that graced last year's squad t.ai through their enthusiasm and spirit coupled with hard work, there was a possibility of developing develop-ing as good or better team than last year's. No division as to first or second team has been made at this time. Neither have the teams elected their captains. The boys are turn-in turn-in out each night and showing a determination to give a better account ac-count of themselves than have Dixie football teams todate. In the college division Coach Shields has the following group of boys: Centers, Grant Brooks and (Continued on page four) Large Squads In Both High School And Dixie College Are Turning Out For Football (Continued from page one) Keith Heaton; guards, Rowell Leavitt, Lea-vitt, Don Frei, Abner DeMille, Marion Hinton and Carlos Lang; ends, George Jay, Russell Smith, Orval Shamp and Maurice Briggs; quarter backs, Leonard Cook and Therol McArthur; full backs Merlin Mer-lin Milne and Lowell Hutchings; half backs, Dean Gardner, Don and Carlos Schmutz and Earl Tobler. Light Team "We will have to go in for speed and deception," said Coach Shields, "Since we have a line that will only average 165 pounds and a backfield that will tip the scales at 155. This is light for a Junior college team. Las Vegas high is reported to have a line that weighs over 200 pounds per man on the line. What the boys lack 1 in weight, they make up in spirit, fight and speed, so that with plenty of practice they should take care of themselves all right." High School Team What has been said for the college col-lege team can be repeated for the high school squad. Coach Shields is delighted with the fine turnout that he has. This year he has better than two full squads so that he is able to give the boys practive against each other as well as providing competition for the positions.
