Show Dedication of Capitol Reef National Monument Slated For September 24 The results of the determination and untiring efforts of Southern Utah people, particularly a small group from Wayne County, will be celebrated this Friday and Saturday, Satur-day, September 24 and 25, with the dedication of the Capitol Reef national monument. This is the area commonly known as Wayne Wonderland. For more than twenty years Bishop E. P. Pectol of Torrey and others have dreamed of the day when this region would be given national recognition. Six year ago the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah undertook to give every assistance possible in ironing out seemingly unsurmountable obstacles ob-stacles and only recently did success suc-cess crown the efforts. Committees of the Southern Utah clubs and the leaders of Wayne County have worked out a program for the dedication of (Continued on page eight) j Capitol Reef ! Con- ' gressman Abe Murdock, is expected expect-ed to offer the dedicatory prayer. The formal part of the program however, is only a small part of the complete celebration. A rodeo and race meet will be held at Loa Friday at 2:00 p.m. with some of the best range hands of the vicin- iity furnishing the entertainment. Local riders and stock will be used and in many respects this type or rodeo surpasses the professional performances. Friday night a dance is scheduled at Loa. Saturday morning the visitors will move on to Fruita, the only town included in the monument boundaries, for a luncheon at noon. This will include plenty of homegrown home-grown melons, peaches and other fruits all free. Following the dedication at 2:00 p. m., sight-seeing trips will be taken either in automobiles, on foot or horseback and a barbecue will be prepared for early evening. A dance at Bicknell is the final event of the celebration. Since the monthly meeting of the members and directors of the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern South-ern Utah could not be held in Helper as originally scheduled, due to the unavoidable delay in completing com-pleting the new auditorium there, the Executive Board will meet in Fruita at 11 a. m. Saturday. Only important business matters will be taken up and there will be no general session as is customary. cus-tomary. All members of the association as-sociation are urged to attend the dedication exercises by President C. W. Love Jr. |
