Show State D. U. P. Official Visits In St. George Mrs. Roy Dame of Fillmore was a St. peorge visitor over the week end, being in St. George in the interest of the preservation of pioneer relics. STie is one of the state D.U.P. officials in this particular interest and at present is custodian of the relics in the Old State House at Fillmore. Explaining her interest in relic gathering, Mrs. Dame, who is a neice by marriage of Col. William Dame, well known to many pio neers for his military service, states that the State House at Fillmore houses many relics for all the southern part of Utah and still has room for more. They had planne5 a campaign to this section to gather relics for the State House just at the time word was received of the proposed pro-posed errection of a relic hall in this city due to the bequest of Horfense McQuarrie Odium. She visited the hall Saturday afternoon and was thrilled to see the variety of relics but realizes there must be many more available avail-able and urges that these be carefully care-fully preserved by the owners, and if there is not room for them in the McQuarrie Memorial Hall, offers space for them in the State House. She expressed deep regret that the local building is not kept open for visitors to view the interesting in-teresting relics and says the State House has some local relics which they will be happy to transfer to this building, where they can be divided to provide one of a kind for each, and will be happy to make like exchange with the local people. |
