Reese, State Treasurer, publicly announced the latter part of April his candidacy for the office of State Auditor, and stated that his campaign would be strictly on his record. Some highlights of his administration as State Treasurer are as follows fol-lows : Installation of a modernized accounting system which has enabled the office to handle a large amount of additional work without increasing the personnel. Refunding of State bonds, on recommendation of the treasurer, at a rate which will save the state $290,000.00 in interest alone and offer opportunities for additional addi-tional savings through repurchase of these bonds before maturity. Backers of Mr. Reese emphasize that the work of the office has increased tremendously during his incumbency, because of federal grants and inauguration of the social security system, but that he has handled the expanding business efficiently and successfully success-fully with a force of only four employees in "addition to himself. During the past four years $6,855,000.00 in State of Utah (Continued on page six) Reese il; Reese (Continued from first page) bonds have been paid. These transactions and payments were made and handled by the State Treasurer. During the past three and one-half one-half years receipts in excess of $150,000,000.00 have passed through the State Treasury, the responsibility and liability of a state executive second to none in state administration. It has been the policy of the State Treasurer to operate the department efficiently and economically eco-nomically and to cooperate with the state officers and institutions in the management and control of state funds; also, to assist cities, counties and school boards in their financial and bond problems, prob-lems, in order that the citizens and taxpayers could receive the advice and counsel of the state's financial executive. Mr. Reese was born in Wales, Utah, pioneer parents and educated educat-ed in the Moroni high school, Snow college, University of Utah, and the Walton school of commerce com-merce in Chicago. After completing com-pleting his academic training Mr. Reese was employed as an instructor in-structor in the Carbon county schools for two years and then took up business as an employee of coal companies. In 1930 he was elected Treasurer of Carbon county and reelected in 1934. Two years later he was elected State Treasurer, and took office in 1937. Mr. Reese expects to visit St George and other Washington county cities in the very near future. |
