Students and teachers are making final preparation prepar-ation for the opening of school on September 9, 1940. This announcement means little to some one thousand men who have been enrolled in the National Nation-al Defense training program, in Utah. A rare opportunity is being be-ing offered men and boys over 18 years to become skilled tradesmen. trades-men. At present at Dixie we have two classes in progress. One in Motorized Equipment Mechanics and the other in Drafting. The men in these classes are making very good progress according to State Supervisor H. B. Gunderson and C. E. Turner, Special Agent, U. S. Office of Education who visited vis-ited our Vocational School this week. This work is going forward during the summer while the reg- ular school work is not in operation. opera-tion. Aviation Training Arrangements are now complete com-plete for assurance of the Aviation Avia-tion Training program at Dixie this coming year. Training will commence on October 1. With the special programs and renewed interest in the regular college activity it is assured that Dixie will be a very busy place this winter. Increased numbers of students from all parts of the state of Utah and the adjoining states of Nevada and Arizona have been making requests for catalogues and special information informa-tion relative to the school. Our complete catalogue has been distributed to all of the communities in the southern part of the state. If you have not received re-ceived yours you may do so by addressing a card to the Dixie Junior College. This catalogue is well arranged and beautifully designed. de-signed. It alone is attracting much comment. One problem we expect to have this year is placing students in suitable quarters. With increased enrollment at the school an increased in-creased responsibility is to be assumed as-sumed by the people of the community. com-munity. It is also hoped that the people will not look to this as a means of greatly increasing the income of the people in this community. com-munity. The ease and economy with which people can get an education ed-ucation at Dixie is one of its strong talking points. Eventually this will build the school and the community if we do not loose sight of the goal. Background and traditions of education and character have a strong appeal to students considering ' Dixie. Miss Mabel Jarvis, 42 E. 200. S., Phone 46-W has charge of the housing situation. If students are looking for a place to stay they might get in touch with her. If people in the community want to cooperate by securing a boarder, roomer, person to work for board or room, ect., they should telephone tele-phone Miss Jarvis relative to their needs. M. M. Bentley will return to the office this week from a summer sum-mer at Northwestern at Evans-ton, Evans-ton, 111. Pres. Glenn E. Snow left for Salt Lake City where he will spend the rest of the week.
