Show They Plan Three-Day Dixie Round-Up Program L . . ...... ,. DIXIE ROUND-UP COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN Professional Cowboys Show Interest In Dixie Round-Up Contests Turf slinging broncos and yelling cowboys will compete for favor at the St. George Rodeo, September Sep-tember 5 ,6, and 7. Stockmen, cowboys and even cowgirls are dusting off their ten-gallon hats and preparing for three days of thrills and excitement. Many of the rodeo performers travel from show to show in automobiles with trailers and cover up to 30,000 miles of highway in the season. Equipment varies with the contestants in different events, a roper being required to provide his own horses, saddles, ropes and other equipment, while a bronco-rider needs only to 'bring his spurs and hat". Some of tfTe rodeo stars to perform per-form here have displayed their skill and prowess in New York and even Boston where "the fans eat it up". In the United States the rodeo is growing in popularity along with the come back of the horse, and in New York the rodeos draw bigger crowds than the leading circuses. Each show will feature saddle bronc riding, bareback horse riding, calf roping, steer wrestling and roping, steer riding with added special attractions to round out a complete program. A large division of events will be open to amateur ropers and riders according ac-cording to Mr. Hill, and will bring out the local talent. Parades For complete details as to the parades, local people are referred to the program published by the Lions club. Business houses are urged to be planning their entries en-tries as are all organizations and individuals who plan on entering floats. Junior Parade Mrs. W. A. Nelson, president of the Lady Lions, urges mothers to dig out costumes that have been used in various plays. She points out that the theme lends itself to the use of such costumes without going to great cost or work. For any information on this mothers are invited to contact con-tact her or committee members. |
