Show WOODWARD SCHOOL NEWS Miss Tiliie Winsor's room has one of the most attractive blackboard borders seen so far this year. In commemoration of the important patriotic holidays this month, it features colonial ladies, George Washington, the Amercian eagle and the national colors. The boys and girls in the third grade are enjoying a con-tost con-tost in the study of the multiplication multi-plication tables. Horace and Earl McArthur, Margaret Brooks and Ila Adair are the new student teachers. The students in Miss Seegmil-ler's Seegmil-ler's fifth grade made perfect scores in the fifth month's cpell-ing cpell-ing words: Jane Pace, Paul Crosby, Viola Blake, Everaro Cox, Dan Worthen, Verde Cot-tam Cot-tam and Eldon McArthur. The students in the room have formed a uity government with the following officers: Mayor, Jane Pace; councilmen, LaRaine McArthur, Howard Ahlstrom, Richard Morris, Mar-cia Mar-cia McAllister and Grant Faweett. Faw-eett. Marshal, Earl Cox. Recorder Re-corder and treasurer, Paul Crosby. Cros-by. Justice of the peace, Sheila Sturzenegger. The Woodward school is sponsoring spon-soring the picture show to be presented at the Wausworth tke- ater Monday and Tuesday nights. It is Mark Twain's "Penrod and j Sam", and has a thrill for j youngsters and grown-ups alike, j A special matinee will be given at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon. In connection with the show, j special patriotic numbers will be given by the school. Miss Larson's sixth grade is j preparing a patriotic program to j be given some time next week, j The other section of the grade I taught by Mr. Cannon will be I invited to attend, and will give a number. The grade is making j Washington booklets in lan-I lan-I guage and art classes. The eighth grade English class taught by Miss Nelson is preparing pre-paring essays on George Washington Wash-ington for an American Legion Auxiliary contest. The winners will be awarded a . prize. The fourth grades will present pre-sent the student body program Friday. An operetta, "Betsy Ross", will be given. The characters char-acters are Betsy Ross, Nettie McAllister; George Washington, Spencer Truman; Robert Morris, Mor-ris, Dean Snow, and George Ross, Dean Wilkins. A little patriotic play, "February's "Feb-ruary's Famous Days", wi'i also be given. All of the grades had a Valentine Val-entine box Friday. The reading contest in Miss Harmon's first grade was completed com-pleted last week with the following fol-lowing winners: Morning section sec-tion Luen Atkin, 55 books; Marylin Cox, 52 books; Henry Empey, 40 books; Mary Judd, 13 books. Afternoon section Aileen Pymm, 14 books; Hanna Terry, Ter-ry, 13 books; Dick Schmutz, 10 books. Prizes were a subscription subscrip-tion to the Weekly Primer. |
