Show RECREATION IN NATIONAL FORESTS ( ily Ranger Rcnj. Swapp) I'tah and the intermountain region are quite conspicuous in comparing recreational use of the national forests, according to a report recently compiled by the Forester for tho 14 G national na-tional forests in 2 6 states. The intermountain region lias three of the ten forests with over 6,000 visitors in a day and all are in Utah. These three forests are the Cache, Fishlake, and Wasatch The remainder of the ten forests are in California, Washington, and Oregon. The forest with the largest number of visitors in one day is also the Wasatch in Utah, which leads all the others having hav-ing 16,000 visitors. The Los Angeles national fores-t is the nearest rival, although the hitter hit-ter has far more visitors in a year. Comparing the national forest for-est regions, the intermountain region comes third in the number num-ber of camp grounds, with 662, and for states, Utah ranks 7th with 2S2 camp grounds. In estimating the funds needed need-ed to improve the national forest for-est campgrounds, the intermountain inter-mountain region stands second highest, the northern Rocky Mountain region first. By states the forests in California need most, those in Utah second, and Idaho third. |
