Show HAVE NARROW ESCAPE WHEN BRIDGE WRECKS The mail' truck driver between be-tween Springdalo and Kanab on the Zion-Mt. Carmel highway, and two truck drivers had a narrow escape last week when the Big Meadow Bridge, near Mt. Carmel went out. The mail truck was driven onto the bridge, but noting its weakened condition backed off the structure. struc-ture. A minute later it collapsed. col-lapsed. Two truck drivers, sloped slop-ed just before crossing the bridge to put on chains, and while engaged at this the landslide land-slide occurred which wrecked the bridge. The structure was of wood, with steel stringers with pilo foundation. Fears had been felt that the site might prove unstable, un-stable, and the structure was not of an expensive type. The bridge has about Su-foot Su-foot span, and was 115 or 4 0 feel above the bed of the wash. It may take a few days, in the opinion of II. S. Kerr, engineer for the state road commission, to construct a temporary road and crossing that will be safe for traffic. |
