Show EC0N01C ACTIVITIES REPORTED Trip to Local Projects on Program ; Reports of Committees Com-mittees Are Encouraging; Work for Month Outlined The Washington County Economic Eco-nomic Council, composed of representative rep-resentative men in their several sev-eral lines of endeavor throughout through-out the county, met Tuesday in the Science building with fourteen four-teen members present. Chairman Orval Hafen called call-ed the meeting to order and gave an opening discussion on the general economic situation as it affects the nation, the state and the community. He explained the workings of the new Reconstruction Finance Corporation and how it will help the farmers and business men. County Agent Walter F. Snitih explained the purpose of the government feed loans on livestock live-stock and showed how loans could be secured. The county agent also emphasized em-phasized the importance of the work of the Economical Council and encouraged them to give to this work their most serious concentration towtard the solution solu-tion of the agricultural problems. The executive committee composed com-posed of Orval Hafen, David Hirschi, W. W. McArthur and Walter F. Smith reported that they had assisted in financing 40 tons of phosphate fertiliser during the past month. The program for the next I month includes: 1. Make contacts with the Reconstruction Finance Corporation Corpor-ation at Salt Lake and endeavor to secure seed and fertilizer loans for farmers. 2. Compile records of poultry production in a survey of the poultry industry. 3. Start a survey on some one industry, keeping . a record of imports and exports and production pro-duction costs. 4. Encourage the shipment of a second car of fertilizer. 5. Encourage the cooperation of the following list of agencies agen-cies to work for the economic betterment of agriculture in Washington county: Chambers of commerce ot St. George and Hurricane, Rotary club, ward organizations, county coun-ty schools, Associated Civic clubs, American Legion, Ladies' Auxiliary, Fish and Game association, asso-ciation, Southern Utah Association Asso-ciation of livestock men, Dixie Products, Inc., Washington county coun-ty turkey pool, Mohair Growers association, Union Pacific railroad, rail-road, Utah Parks Co., truck companies, I. E. Riddle Co., local feed mills and lumber yards, local lo-cal business men. (Continued on page 5). A trip was made by the committee com-mittee to farms in the Washington Wash-ington field. Lunch was served by the Dixie College. The March meeting will be held on the same days as the county commissioners com-missioners are in session. |
