No action was taken by the board of county commissioners Tuesday relative to the proposed highway route out of St. George. A delegation of business men i met with the commissioners and urged th'at the present route out Diagonal be retained. As a result of the protests against the route selected by the road commission, deeds for rights-of-way in the west part of town on the proposed route were not signed and the delegation dele-gation heads were given until Saturday morning to secure rightfy-of-way at the intersections intersec-tions of Main and First North and Main and Dianoganl streets. The delegation was given to understand un-derstand if they secured and paid for the lower right-of-way the county would take care of the latter. They must also secure se-cure the sanction of the state road commission of the Diagonal Diag-onal route. The commission has already designated the street running due west as the route out of town. The government engineer on a recent inspection trip here, demanded de-manded that if the road went north at the Pace corner it would be necessary to secure a right-of-way diagonally achoss the Pace property from a point 6fl feet east on First North, to a point 60 feet north on Main. The highway would also cut into the lots on the west of the intersection with Diagonal. The we?t boundary of the highway would come within five feet of the porch of the Dean Clark ' home and within five feet of the front of the John Pace home, faking off the porch. j |
