Show Sept. Encouraging Ideas And Events Tenderness For The Troubled It may seem to some that the number of troubled Americans is increasing every year. In fact, rates of divorce, suicide and juvenile delinquency delin-quency have all risen alarmingly alarm-ingly since 1960. Divorce went up more than 100 percent, per-cent, suicide rose from 10.6 per 100,000 Americans in 1960 to 12 per 100,000 in 1973, and juvenile delinquency delin-quency increased 50 percent through the '60s. Fortunately, however, there is somewhere troubled persons per-sons can go for help: The Salvation Army. Every day of the year, the men and women of the Army put the "compassion "com-passion in action" programs of their Christian ministry to work helping those overwhelmed over-whelmed by circumstances or personal failure to get another stake in life. Troubled families on the verge of break-up are counseled coun-seled by trained social workers work-ers at family service centers. Community centers are open year-round to meet the needs of families, children, single . people, the elderly. Emergency Emer-gency lodges give shelter to people in a crisis. The Army's skilled, caring people can help the troubled cope with the pressure of living. |
