Show Weight Clinic Responding to an apparent need in the community, Dr. Larry Wilcken will again start a weekly weight clinic which will run for four weeks. The purpose of the clinic is to teach people about obesity and how to implement exercise, dieting, and medication to achieve optimal weight control. A surprising number of people in our community have been going to Salt Lake City to be treated by an osteopath with diuretics, laxatives, thyroid, and speed. This treatment has resulted in several people being hospitalized for arrhythmias of the heart, nervous disorders, and in one case, an acute pyschosis. State authorities, to the best of our knowledge, have closed these clinics at the presemt time, and they are no longer treating patients. The attractiveness of these clinics is a testimonial to the need for an effective weight-control program and for this reason, I am offering these classes. The physiology of fat and how it fs stored and broken down, etc., will be explained. A practical no-nonsense diet will be given and the importance of exercise will be stressed. Dr. Robert Vincent will give two lectures on behavior modification. Also, for compulsive eaters, a new drug has been found to be quite effective in curbing complusive eating and will be used. This drug is the only one, at the present time, that has been found to be safe and effective. The clinic will be held at the Uintah County Conference room adjacent to the Pink Ladies' Gift Shop at the front entrance to the hospital. The first class will be Thursday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. and will last approximately one hour. There will be a total of four weekly classes at the cost of ten dollars per class. Please register by calling Dr. Wilcken's office, 789-5113. There is only space for 30 people and some have pre-registered, so please get your name in as soon as possible. |
