Show County grees flo Snsfcall Chrarael 20 TV UHF system Uintah County gave approval Monday to begin the necessary (reparations to add Salt Lake City elevision station KSTU Channel 20 to he county translator system at Blue fountain. The county commissioners met Monday with Doug Beck, public -elations director for KSTU 20 and Joe LeBeau, county television technician, it was agreed that an FCC permit would immediately be applied for and that translator equipment for Blue Mountain would be ordered. It was estimated the equipment will cost about $13,000. It will take about six months before he county system will be able to ransmit the new television station. Channel 20 is an Ultra High tequency (UHF) station, which will equire each television set to install an JHF antenna, in addition to or onto the present VHF antenna, to pick up the Channel 20 signal. Channel 20 is an independent station and is not tied to a network schedule which allows more flexibility in programming, pro-gramming, according to Beck. Channel 20 is part of a larger corporation, Springfield Television Corp., which has been operating for 28 years and has the oldest UHF station in the country. KSTU 20 is on the air 19 hours a day Monday thru Thursday, and all night long on Friday and Saturdays. A special feature has been to show movies that appeal to the majority of Utah viewers with strong programs geared to family viewing, said Beck. Channel 20 is already transmitting from a translator on Tabby Mountain on UHF channel 64, said LeBeau. This signal will be picked up on the Blue Mountain translator equipment and relayed to- northeastern Utah and northwestern Colorado residents on a UHF channel to be determined. A UHF signal is a stronger signal and provides a clearer picture than VHF channels, according to Mr. Beck. TV20 will also be beamed to Duchesne and Daggett counties and to Rangely over " the Tabby Mountain and Blue Mountain translator system. "We offer something different to Utah. ..an independent in-dependent point of viewing," concluded Beck. |
