Ouchesrse defects Morth Uldi Duchesne High School advanced into the consolation title game in the 1-A State Tournament when they thumped Dugway, 67 to 59, Friday and nipped North Rich, the first place team from Region 11, 78 to 74, Thursday. The Eagles jumped out to a 16 to 12 lead in the first quarter and had a 38 to 27 lead after two quarters. Duchesne had a 52 to 44 lead at the end of the third quarter and went on to win the game by the score of 67 to 59. Duchesne had four cagers in double figures. Blair Madsen scored 14 points and Tren Grant and Kirk Bailey put in 13 counters each. Madsen fired in six field goals and was 2 for 2 from the foul line. Bailey put in five field goals and hit 3 out of 5 free throws. Grant put in four field goals and was 5 for 11 at the foul line. Tal Fabrizio flipped in ten points and Wayne Hanberg scored nine points. Abplanalp tossed in eight counters. Duchesne tossed in 25 field goals and hit 17 out of 27 free throws. Eva was the top scorer for Dugway with 15 points and Witkowski put in 13 points. Bate put in 11 counters. Dugway fired in 25 two-pointers and connected on 9 out of 25 free throws. Duchesne gained its first victory in the tournament when they knocked off one of the top ranked teams, North Rich, 78 to 74, Thursday. The Eagles grabbed a lead of 22 to 13 ' in the first quarter and had a one point lead of 38 to 37 after two Quarters. Duchesne increased its lead to two points, 60-58, in the third quarter and won the game by the score of 78 to 74. Duchesne's Grant poured in 23 points for Duchesne and Fabrizio put in 17 points. Grant put in ten field goals and was 3 for 3 from the foul line. Fabrizio fired in seven field goals and was 3 for 4 from the foul line. Bailey and Hanberg scored 12 points each. Abplanalp put in four points and Jerry Sleight scored one point. Duchesne fired in 32 field goals and hit 14 out of 28 free throws. Matt Dustin was the top scorer for North Rich at 23 points and Darin Satterthwaite tossed in 22 counters. Dustin put in eight points and was 7 for 10 from the foul line. Satterthwaite fired in nine field goals and was 4 for 7 in the free throw department. North Rich put in 29 field goals and was 16 for 32 from the foul line. Altamont was knocked out of the tournament when they were thumped by Wendover, '56 to 48, Thursday. Wendover grabbed a lead of 13 to 7 in the first quarter and a shot at the buzzer gave Wendover a 26 to 23 lead at the end of the first half. The Longhorns outscored Wendover, 16 to 13, in the second quarter. Wendover increased its lead to nine points, 43 to 34, in the third quarter and went on to win the game by the score of 56 to 48. Altamont 's top scorer was Mike Todd with 12 points. He fired in three field goals and was 6 for 13 from the foul line. David Brotherson scored 11 points. He put in four field goals and hit 3 out of 4 free throws. Also scoring points for the Longhorns were Lindon Hansen, 8; Wayne Miles, 8; Eddie Fisher, 5 and Rob Lindsay, 4. Altamont put in 16 field goals and was 16 for 30 from the foul line. Wendover's top scorers were Spillman, 16: Shane Bostock, 13 and Steve Bostock. 10. |
