Show Board to focus on future building The building of new schools in the Uintah School District tends to be the focus of this week's school board meeting, March 26, as three items on the agenda will pertain to the building program. Dale Allsop, Interstate Brick architect ar-chitect and architect for Discovery Elementary will make a presentation to the board, followed by a review of the middle school building concept by acting superintendent Philip Ellis. At about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the board will go into a work session to further discuss the building program. During a similar work session at last board meeting. Richard Tolley, secretary-treasurer, stated that for 1980-81 there could be $378,000 available for building schools. For 1981-82 there could be $1,320,000 available and 1982-83 around $1,400,000. Discovery Elementary cost the district $2.4 million to complete and equip. Dr. Ed Oscarson. board member, said the middle school concept would relieve the junior high, taking the seventh grade frm the junior high and relieve all elementary schools by taking the sixth grade from the elementary schools. D. Blayne Morrill said he had met with the Ute Tribe and they offered the district $2.5 million for a high school to be built on the west side of the county. Although the Tribe has offered verbal committments to give the board $2.5 million, nothing has been put in writing. Morrill suggested a new bond elec- tion would help build new schools, but other board members didn't favor the idea. Gary Taylor said that in the bond election that failed and the five year building program, the next building would be on the west side. The board was of the concensus that they would like to see Uintah County students out of Union High School. The board then looked at floor plans to elementary schools and discussed architects. In executive session at the last board meeting, Stan Allen, transportation supervisor, discussed his employment with the district. He proposed that on April 15, 1981 he be allowed to go from a full-time employee to a part-time employee because of his plans to build a house in Ioka, Duchesne County. The board directed Superintendent Ellis to bring back to the board a recommendation recom-mendation concerning Allen's proposal. Following a lunch break the board reviewed applications for the accountant's ac-countant's position. After some discussion of the applicants, the board selected Marlene Atwood to fill the position. Other agenda items for this week's school board meeting include a social services report by Elaine Pacheco, a staff update by Ellis, a legislative report and release from contract policy report by Gayle McKeachnie, and a review of community use of schools by Ted Taylor. |
