The winner will compete in the district contest held April 26. Professional Women's Club selects young career woman Winner of the Young Career Woman contest held by the Vernal Business and Professional Women's Club, Thursday, March 19, was Terri Anne Flint with Mary Contreras as alternate. The speech contest subject was "Decade for Decision: Time of Action-Economics, Action-Economics, Energy, and Health." Candidates were directed to speak on how these elements will effect today's women. Speeches were limted to five minutes. Terri Anne Flint works as a child welfare supervisor for the department of Social Services. She provides mental health counseling to students and parents. She works at the Parent Resource Center. Terri Anne's master; thesis was written on "Depression and Women in Rural Areas." She has presented speeches at Utah Conference of Human Service-"Energy & Women" nd assertive training workshops. "My future goals in the next ten years include working as a social worker lor two years in order to be a licensed clinical social worker. I would then like to work for my doctorate degree in order to be eligible for a teaching position at a university," said Terri. Mary Contreras, alternate, is program director for Vernal Junior High Community School. Her goals fwimw have been "a community involvement project of a city-wide fiesta: finding groups to participate in instructing and displaying crafts and talents." A past successful venture of her organization had 2,500 participants. Mary hopes to complete her certificate in elementary education through Utah State University and teach, or remain m community education fields. The contest winner will compete in the district contest held April 26. Judging was based on the candidate's career achievements and ability to project an image reflecting the role of today's women on society. Judges were past chairmen of the Young Career Women's program. Pearl Shaffer, Ethel Bowden and Kay Gotfredson. The remainder of the meeting, held at the home of Shirley Wilkins, was spent playing , a special bingo game based upon questions and facts on the International Business and Professional Organization. Prizes were provided by chairman Alice White. Refreshments were provided hy committee members Margaret Adams, Kay Gotfredson, Betty Zeller and Lucille Lipphart, president. The next business meeting will be in the school board building Thursday, April 2. |
