Beckie has won many awards for her athletic talent and has performed in parades, rodeos, benefit shows, school and public presentations, and at convalescent homes. Baton twirling Beckie Allred performs with fire batons Baton twirling Beckie Allred began her baton lessons at age nine. At the age of 12 she began twirling fire baton and in 1969 she began instructing this active sport. When Beckie moved to Vernal with her parents, Howard and JaNiel Gardner and her sister Julie, she began her baton lessons under the instruction of Mrs. Phillip Hatch.' Dr. Colleen Colton and Sherma Oaks also instructed in-structed Beckie in her formative years of learning the art of baton twirling. Mrs. Hatch is a champion twirler. Summers were spent marching and leading Vernal parades. During her junior high school years she was head twirler for the Vernal Jr. High School Band. After entering high school in Vernal, Beckie became. a member, .of the Uintah High School majorette organization. .'n--?') Winning many awards and honors in her career, Beckie recalls one presentation, "Placing first in the' Eugene Jelsenik TV Talent Show was just as exciting as when I won the UBIC Teen Talent Show in 1971 . It was exciting ex-citing winning the honor and being able to ride on the Miss Utah float in the UBIC parade." In eighth grade she began instruction under the 1969 USA Champion baton twirler, Debbie Grill, her fire baton training. Beckie feels as if her past dancing lessons were an asset to the grace and form required to twirl a baton. Beckie was born in Englewood, Calif., Aug. 30, 1956. She was raised in Murray, Utah. Her parents are from the Vernal area. She is married to Rand Allred who is employed at Jacks General Tire. Presently, Beckie is busy instructing a group of girls called the Rangerettes and a group called the ' Flamettes. The former are baton ; twirlers and the latter are fire baton " twirlers; Through her school; which she . owns and operates, the girls will be performing for the community in such activities as rodeos, benefit shows, parades, school and group presentations presen-tations and for convalescent homes. |
